The Parole Board didn’t care about the value of his work in prison or his minimal risk to public safety, and instead were determined to punish him for the one thing that would never change. Farid was released at his 10th parole board interview after 33 years in prison at 62 years old.” https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1617297533476-TM9ALCJBPOYQHZ7GY48A/johnmackenzie.jpg Those We Have Lost - John MacKenzie In an essay published before his death, John writes, “If society wishes to rehabilitate as well as punish wrongdoers through imprisonment, then society must also ensure that ‘punishment’ never crosses the line over to ‘torture.’ Society – through its lawmakers – must bear the responsibility of tempering justice with mercy. Giving a man legitimate hope is a laudable goal; giving him false hope is utterly inhuman.” https://www.parolejusticeny.com/benjamin-smalls daily 0.75 2021-04-01 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1617297650234-RK2O82TQGPNPJD5VQ82J/benjaminsmalls.jpg Benjamin Smalls https://www.parolejusticeny.com/valerie-gaiter daily 0.75 2021-08-09 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1617297750703-X1KPVDJCRLFT0VI6FX3G/valgaiter.jpeg Valerie Gaiter https://www.parolejusticeny.com/mujahid-farid daily 0.75 2021-04-01 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1617297830630-ASTMCOCQWQCTCT7UE5UZ/mujahid+farid.jpg Mujahid Farid https://www.parolejusticeny.com/john-mackenzie daily 0.75 2021-04-01 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1617297922420-7WQP2HPSGE5UDTHGWX8I/johnmackenzie.jpg John MacKenzie https://www.parolejusticeny.com/li-faith-based-letter-of-support daily 0.75 2021-05-06 https://www.parolejusticeny.com/media-toolkit daily 0.75 2021-05-06 https://www.parolejusticeny.com/mothers-day-rally-social-media-guide daily 0.75 2021-05-07 https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1620402791699-FFSCFMO4RRDJQZTV9Z61/Mother%27s+Day+Rally+Image+%231.png Mother's Day Rally Social Media Guide More than 105,000 children whose parents are incarcerated in New York and hundreds of thousands of family members are counting on the immediate passage of this bill to protect the critical lifeline to their loved ones. #ProtectVisits Families are justifiably fearful that correctional facilities will increasingly rely on video conferencing and eliminate in-person or reduce visiting hours. Video conferencing is a great supplement but can't replace in person visits. #ProtectVisits Most jails have not reinstated in-person visits, taking a huge toll on children, families, & those incarcerated. Passing this bill now is critical b/c more jails are implementing video visits & may be financially incentivized to favor them after pandemic is over #ProtectVisits https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/6035a572a46712378cdd1538/1620372925851-QKV4U3Z628IB1KRRKROM/Mother%27s+Day+Rally+Image+%232.png Mother's Day Rally Social Media Guide Roughly 1,000 people would immediately become eligible for parole with the passage of Elder Parole, and thousands more people would ultimately benefit in years to come. New York State could make sure more mothers are reunited with their families by passing #ParoleJusticeNY The Fair + Timely Parole Act would provide more meaningful parole reviews for people incarcerated in women's prisons who are parole eligible by centering release considerations not on the original crime but on the person’s rehabilitation while incarcerated. #ParoleJusticeNY Elder Parole and Fair + Timely Parole would increase New York’s dismally low parole release rate, reduce the number of New Yorkers behind bars, save lives, reunite families, promote racial justice, and save the state tens of millions of dollars. Step 2: Take a photo of yourself holding the sign. Step 3: Upload the photo to social media with a caption/tweet that says “Survivors, faith leaders, Long Islanders, Upstate New Yorkers, legislators from across the state, and people from all walks of life support #ParoleJusticeNY and passing Elder Parole and Fair + Timely Parole THIS SESSION.
